Class 11. Miss Holmes & Mrs Bailey
Welcome to Class 11
Miss Holmes, Mrs Halford and Mrs Chouhan
Welcome to Class 11
The Spring Term is going to be a fantastic time of learning. After discovering how hard-working and enthusiastic the children in Class 11 are, there are many challenges planned for them.
Our topic for the Spring term is World War II. We will be learning about life in the trenches, rationing, transport and weaponry, and the different battles. We will also be linking our art work to World War II and studying the art of Lowry.
In English, we are going to be using a variety of stimulus to motivate the children with their writing from The Arrival by Shaun Tan, and War poems. A great deal of our writing will be focused around Goodnight Mr. Tom, which is also our class read for the term.
As marvellous mathematicians, we will continue to build on methods from last term as well as learning new ones. Our focus across the term is number and place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, percentages, measurement, statistics and shape. We cannot stress how vital it is to learn all times tables at a speed as that will support and strengthen the learning in all areas of Mathematics.
In Science our topic will be Light. We will carry out many investigations, working individually and in teams. We will use and develop many skills as we become super Scientists!
PE kits are essential on Mondays and Thursdays. Our sports focus is gymnastics and dance for year 5.
Home learning remains a key part of our children’s education this will include; English and maths tasks; a creative project (due in before Easter holidays) and weekly practise of spellings and times tables. All weekly homework tasks are due every Wednesday, along with spelling tests!
Life in class 11 is about working hard, learning with each other and from each other and trying our very best. Our learning culture is not to give up!
We are life-long learners, striving to do our very best and having lots of fun as we do it!
