Lower KS2 2015 -16

This is where you will find everything that the previous Year 3 and 4 children did within their classes including; trips out, activities, art, design & technology.

We hope you enjoy looking through this section to remember the experiences you enjoyed  in Lower Key Stage 2.

Community Heroes - Paramedics

On Friday 16th June Year 3 and 4 were extremely lucky to be visited by two paramedics from the East Midlands Ambulance Service. Children had fun watching Miss Lawes and Miss Maddick get bandaged up and were excited to learn about the role of a paramedic within our community. After, each class were able to explore the ambulance for themselves. Our favourite part had to be sitting in the driver's seat and sounding the sirens! We learnt some key life skills about what to do in an emergency. Did you know that approximately only 1 in 4 999 calls are genuine emergencies? We now know that calling 111 is an option too.

A big thank you to Miss Lawes for organising!

Clean for the Queen

On Monday 6th June children in Year 3 and 4 spent the afternoon picking up litter around the local area. The children used gloves and litter pickers to collect rubbish in order to make the area around our school tidy. The Year 3 children spent time collecting litter around  the lagoon whilst the Year 4 children helped to tidy up around the Garendon Estate.

We were amazed at how much litter was collected. Hopefully the area will remain clean and tidy in the future.

Ukulele

This term, all Year 3 children have started and taken part in ukulele lessons with Mrs Jane Farrell, who has a wealth of experience in teaching Music and the ukulele. The children (and staff members!) have been taught in groups of around 15 and so far have covered basics such as holding and supporting the ukulele properly, the basics of strumming and picking and are starting to learn chords to play other songs. The children were playing their first melody within minutes and have all enjoyed playing and singing songs about dogs with fleas and Star Wars characters so far!

Aidan Seed:  “I like it because we do funny songs.”

Harry Spicer: “I enjoy ukulele group because we play songs together.”

William Wright: “Once you know where to put your left hand, you can play lots of songs.”
