It's a busy time for our Stonebow Singers! The children are busy preparing for their performances at the Christmas Fayre on Friday 2nd December and at the Key Stage 2 Carol Service on Tuesday 13th December, as well as our visit to Gorse Covert Community Centre to spread some festive joy!
As well as preparations for carolling, the children in Stonebow Singers have now started to learn 'Over the Hills' from the Young Voices repertoire. Please encourage your child to practise the songs that we have covered so far.
Elsewhere in school, KS1 have been learning the words to their songs in the Christmas play and sound lovely! Key Stage 2 children have been learning carols to sing with everyone at the Carol Service as well as a class carol to perform. Christmas is well and truly on the way!

This week, Stonebow Singers have had their second rehearsal where we are beginning to learn the 'Pop Medley' and 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' for Young Voices 2017. They are doing a brilliant job!
Instrument lessons in guitar, flute, fife, violin and viola are well underway and we are looking forward to welcoming our new piano teacher, Mrs Paling, this week.
Year 4 children - look our for a new music club after half term!
This term we are listening to…
This term we have been listening to music from each decade from the 1920s up to the 1980s in our assemblies. Performers from these decades include Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Perry Como, Ella Fitzgerald, The Beatles, Dusty Springfield, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder - just to name a few!
Listen to some of the music at home on Youtube.
- What can you hear?
- Are there any instruments playing? If so, what are they?
- How could you describe their pitch?
- How are they played?
- Could you find out any information about your favourite performer from this decade?
Learning an instrument at Stonebow
All children in Key Stage 2 are offered the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. We have a great team of peripatetic instrument teachers that currently offer lessons at Stonebow and these are:
- Mrs Kathy Croft (Flute and Fife)
- Ms Mirka Katerina (Violin and Viola)
- Mr David Jobson (Guitar)
- Mrs Liz Paling (Piano).
- We are also looking to offer recorder lessons to any interested children.
Some lessons are taught on an individual basis and others in paired or group lessons. All children that learn an instrument (both inside and outside of school) are offered the opportunity to perform in the annual Summer Soirée. The Summer Soirée is a wonderful evening whereby the children are able to share their learning with their families, friends and teachers by performing solo pieces or in ensembles.
Please see Miss Turner or the staff in the school office for further details about instrument lessons.
