North Charnwood Swimming Competiton - January 2017

On Thursday 26th January, eight Year 5/6 pupils from Stonebow went to Charnwood College to compete in the North Charnwood Swimming Competition.

The children competed in two individual races and two relays using backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and even the butterfly!

In the individual races, Cleo Mizrahi (Year 5) swam in the backstroke and butterfly events. In both of these races she powered home to convincing victories, putting a considerable distance between herself and the other competitors.

Following on from Cleo's success, Katie Green (Year 6) also competed in the backstroke and butterfly events. She finished 2nd place in both of these races, which were both very closely contested.

Will Webster (Year 5) also competed in the backstroke event, finishing in 3rd place as well as the freestyle race where he matched his previous peformance, finishing in another great 3rd place.

Rian Mistry (Year 6) was our final competitior in the backstroke and finished in style in 3rd place. Later in the afternoon, he competed in the breaststroke, where he bettered his earlier position to finish in 2nd place.

Mikey Willson (Year 5) competed in both the butterfly and breaststroke races. In the butterfly event he finished in 3rd place and in the breaststroke he managed to hand on to 2nd place in what was a very close finish between all competitors.

Archie Bryan (Year 6) showed his swimming experience with two convincing wins in the butterfly and freestyle . In both races he streaked away from the rest of the field and finished over 5m ahead of his nearest rival in both events.

Jess Aulton (Year 5) also claimed convicing wins in the breaststroke and freestyle races. In the breaststroke she pulled away from the rest of the field to finish comfortably in 1st place. After some confusion in the freestyle event, Jess had to compete with Year 6 swimmers for this race. This didn't matter though, as she swam away from the rest of her competitors and claimed her second win of the day.

Amelia Draper (Year 6) also competed in the breaststroke and freestyle events. In the breastsroke she finished a brilliant 2nd place in a very close finish between all of the competitiors. In the freestyle event she finished in 2nd place, behind Jess Aulton, but was actually 1st place out of all of the Year 6 compeititors.

The afternoon was finished off with the Year 5 and 6 relays. Both of our teams finished in 2nd place in what rounded off a successful swimming competition for Stonebow. Well done to all of the children who were selected to compete. They all used their Stonebow Learning Powers in order to achieve some great results.
