Our Intent:

For children to achieve their potential through rich, high quality learning experiences in partnership with parents and the wider community.

At Stonebow Primary School we care about every child’s well-being and progress, they are treated as individuals and all adults work together to meet academic and pastoral needs. Class teachers ensure, through ‘Quality First teaching’, that the child is given every opportunity to progress. As recommended by the SEND Code of Practice 2014, if a teacher observes that a child is making less than expected progress given their age and individual circumstance further action will be taken. This includes an early discussion with the parents or carers to develop a good understanding of the pupil’s area of strength and difficulty. In addition to teachers and parents/carers raising SEN concerns, previous schools, settings or outside agencies may bring a child’s specific needs to our attention.

At Stonebow we embrace diversity and acknowledge that all children are different and have individual needs. We have children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities in school.  All classrooms are inclusive, stimulating, friendly and well-resourced and necessary adjustments are made so that children can access the full curriculum. There are many activities to enrich our children’s experience, inspire learning and empower through independent discovery such as:

  • Forest Schools
  • Nurture Groups
  • Social and communication groups
  • ELSA
  • Finger gym and Write Dance
  • Lego Therapy
  • Experiential and gamification learning in all subjects

We see all of our class teachers as teachers of SEND children and regularly review to ensure the appropriate training is provided to all staff in school. We are keen to ensure that we work in partnership with parents/carers, pupils and outside agencies, so together we can help children achieve their full potential whilst in our care. Our teachers work hard to ensure children are happy and making good progress and want to know if there is a problem that you feel is affecting their progress. Termly meetings will be held to give you an opportunity to discuss progress and raise any concerns or you can raise these with the class teacher or SENDCo at any time.

SENSORY CIRCUITS

Some of our children have started attending Sensory Circuits before the start of the school day. These sessions are a form of sensory integration intervention. It involves a sequence of physical activities that are designed to alert, organise and calm the child. The aim of these sessions is to help the child regulate and organise their senses in order for them to be at the optimum level of alertness for optimum learning.
