BBC Music Day - September 2018
The Expressive Arts team organised a whole day of musical events to celebrate BBC music day.
Our many individual musicians “popped up” throughout breaks and lunchtime to entertain, and to inspire others with their music. We heard flutes, violins, guitars and the piano. Our Stonebow Singers group also sang in the dinner hall to entertain the other pupils while they ate their lunch.
Outside in the Outdoor Classroom we hosted a drop-in music-making session, where anyone could have a go at creating rhythms and sound effects both individually and in groups.
We finished off the day with a whole school celebratory assembly lead by the Expressive Arts team. We joined in with the official BBC singalong, and also sang some of our popular school songs. We thought about rhythms, and listened to a song by the Pentatonics, who make all their rhythms and percussion sounds with their voices. Some staff members also bravely gave performances on their own instruments to encourage children to take an interest in music and maybe even try learning to play an instrument themselves.
