Biographies
This term (Summer 2) to tie in with our Heroes topic, we are writing biographies. Below is a copy of Martin Luther King's biography which we will be learning off by heart.
As always we are encouraging the children to read this text type to fuel their writing. Curriculum Visions has a great biography section where children can learn about the lives of many famous figures form history. Espresso is another another great source of information inlcuding videos and activities to engage the children

Defeating the Monster Stories
In English this term (Summer 1) we are writing Defeating the Monster stories. Below is a copy of the Greek myth ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’ which we will be learning off by heart.
Children are encouraged to read other Greek myths to fuel their writing. We have added a Myths and Legends tab to the Read to Succeed section of our website. There are lots of audio books which would make good bedtime stories or help pass the time on long journeys
Quest Stories
In English last term (Spring 1) we were writing Quest Stories. Below is a copy of 'Treasure Island' by Robert Louis Stevenson which we learnt off by heart.
Explantion Texts
Our second unit of work this term (Spring 2) is explanation texts. We will begin by looking at the specific language used - conjunctions, prepositons etc and use these to give guided tours of the school. The end product of this unit of work will be a guided tour of an imaginary space station.
Below is a guided tour of the International Space Station which we will be learning off by heart.
Children are encouraged to research space - space stations past and present plus fictional ones such as 'The Starship Enterprise' to fuel their writing.
