Mark Lewis Francis visit - June 2019

On Friday 21st June Stonebow were visited by Olympic Gold Medallist Mark Lewis-Francis.

Mark began the afternoon by talking to our year 6 children about his experience from school all the way through to his Olympic Gold Medal, finishing with a video of the moment he won his Gold in the 4 x 100m Relay in the 2004 Athens Olympics. The children then had a question and answer session with Mark where they asked about the different challenges he faced while injured, not being selected for events and finally about what it felt like to win the Gold.

We then went outside where the children were put through their paces with different challenges from a simple warm up, to hurdles challenges, with the winning team having the prize of racing against Mark.  Once that race had finished the entire year 6 group were given a chance to race.

Once the races had finished Mark ended his visit by giving all of the children an autographed card for them to keep and a photo with his Gold medal.

Thank you for Charnwood College and the David Ross Education Trust for providing us with this opportunity.
