Welcome to our class. We are a class of 32 Year 5 children who are all ready and eager to learn. We are all unique and we respect and recognise our individual strengths and talents within the class.
Our topic this half term is 'Wet and Wild'. We will be looking at the water cycle and answering the question 'Could the world ever run out of water?' We will be using this theme within our English work too, creating a persuasive information leaflet for a water park.
Class book: Journey to the River Sea.
Maia, an orphan, moves to the Amazon to live with the hideous Carters. She meets a mysterious boy who lives alone and begins a spectacular journey to the heart of a new and extraordinary world.
Mathematics. The children will be in different groups for maths and taught by either Mrs Garton or Miss Holmes.
Science. Our topic for science this term is Evolution and Inheritance. Amongst other things will be answering the question...Are birds really dinosaurs?
Tuesday afternoons. On a Tuesday afternoon the children will have French, music and PE with Madame Allenby, Mr Welsford and Mr Brewin. There will be two sessions each afternoon and these will rotate so that the children will get an even amount of all three subjects.
PE. In addition Tuesday afternoon PE, we will also have PE on a Monday afternoon. It is essential that a full PE kit is in school all week as we may have need to change our day sometimes.
Home learning. This remains a key part of our children’s education this will include; Reading comprehension and maths tasks; a creative project every half term and weekly practise of spellings and times tables.
