Welcome to Year 2! We are a class of twenty two enthusiastic children in Key Stage 1.
Our topic is this term is ‘Our School’ and part of our work will answer the question, ‘Where is our school?’ In some of our Topic work, we will learn about our local area and beyond in our Geography work and how school has changed in History.
In English work, we will be linking our work to the story, ‘Lion at School’ by Philippa Pearce and school poems.
During the second half of the term, our topic will be ‘Light and Colour’ and we look forward to learning all about the festivals, celebrations and historical events that happen at this time of year.
In Mathematics, we will focus on areas of mathematics, such as geometry, measurement and statistics during the first part of the week. During the second part of the week, we will be working upon developing our place value knowledge and learning about addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions. We practise our Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs) for ten minutes each day too.
Our topic for Science this term is Everyday Materials and we will also be working to answer the question, ‘why do we use different materials?’ We will be working to develop our ability to name and describe the properties of different materials and investigating their uses.
On a Thursday afternoon [PPA day] the children will have French, music and PE with Madame Allenby, Mr Welsford and Mr Brewin. There will be two sessions each afternoon and these will rotate so that the children will get an even amount of all three subjects.
