Viking Day - February 2019

Monday 25th February 2019

Today we had a really exciting first day back. A Viking visitor came to work with us for the day and we had the opportunity to take part in lots of fun activities.

We built upon what we already know about the Vikings by learning all about how Vikings used to trade with each other and across different countries.

We also learnt about different interesting Viking artefacts that we haven’t yet come across and had the opportunity to handle some of these. Did you know that Vikings had their own ‘rune’ alphabet? We had the opportunity to carve our own names into a piece of wood using runes.

We even had the chance to weave our own material on a wooden loom just like the Vikings would have used. Some of us dressed up in traditional Viking clothing and we did some map work to work out which countries Vikings traded in.

Throughout the day, we did some sketching of Viking artefacts as well as making a watercolour picture of a Viking longship.
