Computing at Stonebow
At Stonebow, we recognise the importance of computing in education. We follow the Knowsley curriculum which is taught from year3 up to year 6. This ensures that there is consistency and clear progression of skills across the year groups.
EYFS and Years 1 and 2 Follow the scheme from Twinkl.
The overall aims of computing are as follows:
- To develop skills such as presenting data, recording videos and using a variety of digital programs.
- To understand, follow and debug simple algorithms using different digital programs.
- To evaluate digital programs and devices.
- To become a competent and confident user of the internet.
Internet safety is taught every year. This begins at foundation with looking at basic rules for staying safe online. By the end of Key Stage 2, children can spot potential ‘fake news’ articles, how to keep their data private and the impacts that technology can have on physical and mental health.
At Stonebow, we now have a set of laptop trolleys for every phase group. We also have a set of iPads that can be booked out for children’s use. We have also invested in a variety of programs that are fun and educational for the children such as Book Creator.
