Cross Country February 2023

KS2 Cross Country Competition

On Tuesday 7th February Stonebow was represented at a KS2 Cross Country competition where the children competed in a race against other boys and girls from their year groups.

The children were buzzing with excitement before the event and could not wait to get started. The Cross Country competition was a qualifying event for the Leicestershire Schools Cross Country Championship, with the top 12 placed children in each race qualifying for the finals event which takes place in March. Stonebow was represented in a number of the races by a total of 9 competitors who competed in the Year 3 boys, Year 4 boys, Year 5 boys, Year 6 girls and Year 6 boys races.

The children had to run a well-marked out course around the Charnwood College sports fields by following the ‘hares’ around the course. All of the children had to run some long distances as the lower KS2 races were 1.2km long and the upper KS2 races were 2km long!

All children who competed were also competing for points towards the North Charnwood Cross Country shield. All children who crossed the finish line received 5 points, with 10 points being awarded to those children who finished 4-10th, 11 points for 3rd, 13 for second and 15 for 1st.

All the children represented Stonebow immaculately and showed great use of their Stonebow Powers throughout the competition, especially showing great perseverance to finish each race! A massive well done to one of the children who finished 1st in their race! Good luck to all of our children who qualified for the Cross Country Championships in March, we are sure you’ll represent not just Stonebow but North Charnwood brilliantly and do amazing!
