KS2 Boccia Finals April 2023

On Thursday 20th April Stonebow represented the whole of North Charnwood at the 2023 Parafest at Loughborough University in Boccia.

All the children were ecstatic upon their arrival to the University and could not wait to get the day started. The children had the privilege of representing North Charnwood at this competition as they previously won a qualifying event back in November. The competition consisted of the best team from each of the 10 area’s which make up the Leicestershire & Rutland School Sport Physical Activity Network.

In the first game the Stonebow team took the first end convincingly to go 1-0 up. In the second end our opposition won by a small margin to tie the game 1-1. In the deciding end the team managed to win in a close fought end and Stonebow won 2-1. In the second and third game Stonebow fell just short by inches in each of the deciding ends and finished the mornings games with a record of 1-2.

After lunch Stonebow was joined by a couple of the children’s parents and were told that they had one game left in their group before the final placements were locked in. In our next game the children were buzzing to get underway as they wanted to recover from our last two defeats to finish strong. Stonebow took the first end quite convincingly to go 1-0. It was a repeat to the first game as we dropped the second end closely to take us to a decider. The children held their nerves and won the decider to finish the day with a record of 2-2.

An announcement was made with the final standings and each team played a play-off game to determine where they finished. Stonebow was notified that we finished 3rd/4th so played in the bronze medal play-off game. The team were massively focused on the upcoming game and had the brilliant support from the parents. This helped to spur on the team as Stonebow won all 3 ends in a dominating fashion to finish 3rd place at the competition.

All of the children who represented not just the school, but North Charnwood should be really proud as they represented themselves amazingly throughout the day. The children showed great sportsmanship after each game no matter what the result was as they congratulated and shook hands with everyone who they played against. A massive well done to all those who took part!
