ELSA

On the ELSA Support website, ELSA support is detailed as this:

“An ELSA in a school is an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant. ELSAs are specialists with a wealth of experience of working with children and young people. ELSAs are trained and regularly supervised by Educational Psychologists. ELSAs are warm, kind and caring people who want to make children and young people feel happy in school and to reach their potential socially, emotionally and academically. They understand the barriers to learning that some children and young people might have and can help them with this.

An ELSA is not there to fix problems but to help them find their own solutions and offer that important support to a child or young person.”

Here at Stonebow Primary School we are exceptionally fortunate to have 2 ELSA trained members of staff who work with children in a calm, nurturing and reflective space within the main building of the school. Within this space children are supported with their emotional development to help them cope with challenges they may be facing and support the children to find solutions to the problems they may have.

ELSAs help with a vast number of areas, these include:

  • Emotional Regulation
  • Friendship Issues
  • Bereavement and Loss
  • Anxiety and Worries
  • Managing Strong Feelings
  • Growth Mindset
  • Plus many other areas

Children can be referred to ELSA by their class teacher, SENDco, Educational Psychologist or even parents.

If you feel your child would benefit from some ELSA sessions, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
