Sports & PE
INTENT
We believe that a high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
Aims
Our aim for PE at Stonebow is to ensure that all pupils:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives
IMPLEMENTATION – How we do it at Stonebow
Physical Education is taught in at least two one-hour session throughout the week for all pupils. We employ a PE specialist who delivers lessons, coordinates and supports other teachers to ensure a wide variety of skills and disciplines are covered in line with the NC’s guidance and example subject content. We also ensure that children have access to high quality regular after-school and lunchtime sporting clubs and wider participation in interschool competitions within our school partnership and beyond.
IMPACT – Assessment of outcomes
- Teachers will observe, monitor and assess the children during indoor and outdoor based activities.
- Teachers will examine the quality of children’s fitness, health and skill from the lessons taught through observations of, and discussions with pupils.
- Teachers will assess children at the end of every year to see if they are WT, EXS or GDS on the learning objectives for that year group
